Todo el corrido es la voz de quienes lo conocieron, que lo recuerdan primero como gente de rancho antes que como hombre del negocio: "No siempre fue malo, fue un hombre de campo, así era él".

La letra explica el quiebre con una línea seca, "Le mataron su retoño y se le metió el demonio", y después pinta su mundo: la ruta 15, los caballos bailando al son de la banda en Los Llanos, la feria ganadera donde fue campeón. It is a farewell corrido. It opens as a memory, "Hace tiempo qué" (it has been a while), and the name arrives in the second line: "No está con nosotros, se le extraña y hablo de Manuel" (he is not with us, he is missed, and I mean Manuel). The whole corrido is the voice of the people who knew him, who remember him first as a ranch man before a man of the trade: "No siempre fue malo, fue un hombre de campo, así era él" (he was not always bad, he was a country man, that is how he was).
