A man who's already been gotten over and doesn't want to get over anyone. He's counted every kiss he hasn't given her and every night she isn't there; she looks good, it shows she's moved on. Not him: he doesn't want to meet someone better or hear I love you in another voice, because he'd have to fake it and he's no good actor. The chorus explains it with a fine distinction: it's not that he can't live without her, it's that he'd rather it be with her. He can be happy, he has people to toast with, but in another bed you don't sleep the same, and if it's not from her mouth, he doesn't like the wine.
