"Juliantla" is named after the village where Joan Sebastian was born, a small town in the municipality of Taxco, Guerrero, 1,700 meters up and with just over seven hundred residents. He wrote it himself, and it gave its name to his 1981 album on Musart. It is the song of someone who has wandered half the world, seen Paris and Chicago, and only wants to go back to his village in the mountains: his cabin, his horse, his loyal dog, his parents and his paisanos. Joan Sebastian did go back to Juliantla for good: he died there in 2015, in the same village where he was born.
