"Tatuajes" is a farewell ranchera: the man leaves because her pride asks him to, but warns that he will not forget her, because he carries her kisses tattooed on his body. Joan Sebastian wrote it and recorded it with mariachi for the album Joan Sebastian Con Mariachi (1996, Musart). The tattoo image was not only a metaphor: according to his son Julián Figueroa, Joan and Maribel Guardia got matching tattoos, a rose and a cross with their initials, and the chorus came from that.
