"Te Quedó Grande la Yegua" is Alicia Villarreal's farewell anthem: a woman who has been supporting a man decides to stop and tells him, in ranch imagery, that she was too much mare for him. It came out in 2001 on "Soy Lo Prohibido", her second solo album after Grupo Límite, and became one of the biggest hits of her career. For years it was said to be aimed at Arturo Carmona, her daughter's father, whom she divorced that same year. Authorship is disputed: Villarreal has said she wrote it, and in September 2025 songwriter Javier Rodríguez Elizondo told Radio Fórmula Monterrey the lyric is his, that it reached the singer through a teacher in the 1990s, and that he stayed silent for over twenty years out of fear.
