"Ciega, sordomuda" (Blind, deaf and mute) was the lead single from ¿Dónde están los ladrones?, Shakira's fourth album, released September 7, 1998. It is pop rock with mariachi trumpets: Shakira wrote the lyric and composed the music with Estéfano. It was her first number one in the United States, on Billboard Hot Latin Tracks, and VH1 ranked it 7th among the greatest Spanish language songs of the 1990s. The song equates total love with being blind, deaf and mute, and builds to a list of insults she aims at herself: "brute, blind, deaf and mute, clumsy, useless and stubborn".
