Mon Laferte escribió esta canción para su papá. Creció en Viña del Mar con su mamá, su abuela y su hermana, y pasó unos diez años sin verlo. Cuando volvieron a encontrarse no se atrevió a reclamarle nada, hasta que después de una discusión le mandó un correo con todo lo que se había guardado, y en cuanto lo envió empezó a ponerle melodía. Así salió esta carta: la niña que les pregunta a las olas a dónde se fue, la mujer que lo buscó en tantos hombres, y la pregunta de quién lo va a cuidar cuando esté viejo.

Viene en La Trenza, el quinto disco de Mon, que salió el 28 de abril de 2017 por Universal Music México. Lo produjo ella con Manú Jalil y fue nominado a Álbum del Año en el Latin Grammy. Ella misma ha contado que la historia con su padre terminó bien: hoy se entienden.

Mon Laferte wrote this song for her father. She grew up in Viña del Mar with her mother, her grandmother and her sister, and went about ten years without seeing him. When they found each other again she didn't dare reproach him, until after an argument she sent him an email with everything she had held back, and as soon as she hit send she started putting a melody to it. That's where this letter came from: the girl asking the waves where he went, the woman who looked for him in so many men, and the question of who will take care of him when he's old.

It's on La Trenza, Mon's fifth album, released April 28, 2017 by Universal Music México. She produced it with Manú Jalil and it was nominated for Album of the Year at the Latin Grammys. She has said the story with her father ended well: today they understand each other.
