"Caray" came out in 1983 on "Todo", the album where Juan Gabriel returned to ranchera after his bolero hits. He wrote it himself, and the mariachi arrangements are by Chuck Anderson, who had been lead trombonist in Glenn Miller's big band and added trumpet figures rarely heard in the genre. It was released on a single with "No vale la pena" and became one of Juan Gabriel's most popular songs of the 1980s. The story is simple and satisfying: she left him for being poor and married a rich old man, and years later he has a home while she is left with no money, no husband and nothing.
