"Cuando yo quería ser grande" is a Manuel Monterrosas song about a son watching his father grow old: as a boy he wanted the years to rush by so he could go along with him, and as a man he asks God to stop time. Alejandro Fernández recorded it in 1992 for his debut album, Alejandro Fernández, produced by Pedro Ramírez. The cover of that album carries a message from his father, Vicente Fernández, reading "Suerte hijo" (good luck, son), and Vicente sings a duet with him on "Qué pregunta muchacho". Vicente had already recorded the song on his album El Tahúr. Mexico's songwriters society, SACM, presents it as the song that has brought Monterrosas the most satisfaction.
