Oscar Maydon told the story on La Saga: he met a girl at a Puerto Vallarta beach club, fell for her "at first sight," and she never looked at him the same way. Later he flew back to Vallarta to take her to dinner, the dinner never happened, and that night he saw her kissing someone else at a club. "They were just illusions in my head," he said, and the song came out of it a few weeks before release. Amigos? No. is exactly that: a slowed-down corrido tumbado about the friend zone, traded between Maydon and Netón Vega. She plays dirty and wants to be friends; he gives her his life and does not get even a little kiss. In the second half the story flips: now she looks at him the way he looks at her, and the chorus keeps its promise: anything, except friends.
