"Explota corazón" kicked off the "Chicas chic" era (1997), the second studio album by Mercurio, the boy band formed in Mexico City in 1994. Sony released it as the first single in February 1997, the same year the group won the Eres award for best pop band. The lyric is pure first rush of love: two hearts drawn under a tree, the light in someone's eyes, and a chorus telling the heart to explode and floor it. It came back live on the "Únete a la fiesta" and "90's Pop Tour" tours.
