"Diamantes" is the opening track of A Mis 20 (11 tracks, released May 28, 2021 via Rancho Humilde/Warner Music Latina) and sets the album's thesis: a 20-year-old Cano flaunting new wealth while admitting fame has changed him and grieving the humble kid he was. Apple Music's album notes put it this way: "Album opener 'Diamantes' boasts about his new jewel-encrusted life while mourning the person of humble beginnings he once was, now preoccupied with the dizzying commitments of the man he's become."

In his own words, Cano named "Diamantes" one of his three favorite songs on the album. To Entertainment Tonight (June 17, 2021): "I think the themes are great in those songs, the lyrics and the sounds are good. I think that in those songs, I am better reflected." On the album's back-to-basics intent: "This is a true corridos tumbados album. It was made in a short time, but it came out as expected and is very well made. People will be able to hear the old Nata from before, but with an added spice." On his writing process: "I go to the studio with an idea, I just start writing, I do freestyle, and that's how the songs are created."

To Billboard's 20 Questions (May 28, 2021), on the album's direction: "My team and I wanted to go back to what we were known for, which is corridos tumbados." On what the prior three years meant: "It's a whole other world from where I came from. I discovered so many things and I feel time has just flew by and maybe it's because I'm enjoying every single minute of it. I don't think of this as my job, it's just something I do and enjoy doing. And that's really helped me preserve the love I have for this."

On the song's origin: in Apple's NataKong album notes (2022), Cano said the later song "Brillo" "came to life in Hermosillo, Sonora, with the same songwriter that I co-wrote 'Diamantes' with." He did not name the co-writer there; the official credits name Brayan Leyva Quintana.
