"Yo Quería" was the second single from "Azul" (2001), Cristian Castro's seventh studio album, released on July 31, 2001. Kike Santander produced it and it reached the top 10 of Billboard Hot Latin Tracks. Castro wrote it with Italians Toto Cutugno, the author of "L'italiano", and Sandro Giacobbe, which is why it sounds like an Italian ballad. The lyric stays in the past tense from start to finish: everything he asks for, stopping time, staying in an embrace, her being his forever, is something he "wanted" and never got.
